LEADERSHIP & ADVOCACY
Creating Lasting Change Starts with Leadership.
Meeting today’s needs is only part of our mission.
At Dutchess Outreach, we believe that every neighbor deserves reliable access to healthy food and the resources they need to thrive—not just today, but for generations to come.
That’s why we work beyond our walls, partnering with community organizations, local leaders, farmers, healthcare providers, and policymakers to strengthen food security and address the root causes of hunger across Dutchess County.

WHAT WE’RE DOING
Advocacy in Action
Creating a more food-secure Dutchess County requires more than providing food—it requires collaboration, coordination, and advocacy.
Alongside our direct service programs, Dutchess Outreach convenes community partners, strengthens regional food systems, and advocates for policies that expand equitable access to nourishing food.
Our work includes helping establish the Dutchess County Emergency Food Providers Coalition, supporting the creation of the Dutchess County Food Security Council, strengthening relationships with local farms and food producers, and advocating for public policies and investments that improve food security throughout Dutchess County.

How We Lead

Food Security Leadership
Addressing food insecurity requires more than providing food—it requires collaboration, coordination, and a shared commitment to long-term solutions.
Dutchess Outreach works alongside local governments, community organizations, healthcare providers, farms, and other stakeholders to strengthen food access across Dutchess County. We help convene partners, share expertise, and advance initiatives that improve coordination and expand access to nourishing food. Our leadership includes the Dutchess County Emergency Food Providers Coalition and the Dutchess County Food Security Council, where we work with others to strengthen the systems that support our community.

Community Coalitions
Food insecurity is a complex challenge that no single organization can address alone. That’s why Dutchess Outreach actively collaborates with nonprofits, healthcare providers, government agencies, farms, and other community organizations to identify emerging needs, coordinate resources, and strengthen food access across Dutchess County.

Food Justice & Public Policy
Food insecurity isn’t simply about food.
It’s connected to housing, healthcare, transportation, employment, wages, and access to opportunity.
Dutchess Outreach advocates for policies that improve food security, strengthen local food systems, and ensure more equitable access to healthy food. We bring the experiences of our community into conversations with local and state leaders to help shape solutions that create lasting impact.

Strengthening the Local Food System
Supporting local agriculture is an important part of our work.
By partnering with Hudson Valley farms and investing in local food procurement, we can provide fresh, nutritious food while supporting the farmers and producers who help strengthen our regional economy.
Healthy communities begin with healthy food systems.

LASTING CHANGE
Looking Beyond Today’s Meal
A meal can nourish someone today.
But lasting change happens when communities work together to address the systems that make food insecurity possible in the first place.
Dutchess Outreach has expanded its role from providing emergency food assistance to helping shape conversations about food justice, equitable access, and community well-being. By combining direct service, community collaboration, and advocacy, we’re working to create lasting solutions that strengthen our community.
